In The Late Seventies, Artist Daniel Spoerri And Historian Marie-Louise Von Plessen Developed The Principle Of The Musée Sentimental. The Idea Ultimately Resulted In A Charming, Witty 1979 Exhibition, The Musée Sentimental De Cologne, Which Included Objects Ranging From Cathedral Relics To A Soccer Ball Used By The 1St Fc Cologne Team In A Championship Game. Art And Ordinary Objects Were Presented On An Equal Level, Opening Up New Associations In The Minds Of The Viewers And Permanently Altering The Perception Of Objects In Museums. At The Core Of The Show Was The Concept Of The “Sentimental” Object—Items Charged With And Enriched By Emotion.
Besides Documenting The 1979 Musée Sentimental In Illustrations, This Book Also Features Eight Extensive Interviews With The Exhibition’S Principal Figures. This Is The First Detailed Review Of An Important, Consequential Art Exhibition, Documented With The Aid Of Previously Unpublished Sources.
