Herbert Brandl (*1959 In Graz) Is One Of Today’S Most Influential Painters. His Participation In The 1992 Documenta Ix In Kassel And The Biennale Di Venezia In 2007 Attests To His Presence On The International Scene. Ever Since He Took Up The Brush, Brandl’S Work Has Concentrated Predominantly On The Subject Of Landscape, Although The Pictures Themselves Alternate Between The Painterly Abstract And The Representational In Terms Of Motif. Above All, From The Time The Artist Started Integrating The Motif Of The Mountain Into His Work, He Has Produced Abstract Color-Field Paintings And Powerful Mountain Landscapes Side By Side.
This Publication Presents A Number Of Works From The Early Eighties Onward, Accompanied By Very New Paintings Created Specifically For The Retrospective. In Addition, The Book Explores Brandl’S Affinity For The Paintings Of Albrecht Ltdorfer, Titian, And Peter Paul Rubens In The Kunsthistorisches Museum In Vienna, Which Have Been A Lasting Inspiration For His Creative Work.
Exhibition Schedule: Bank Austria Kunstforum, Vienna, January 26–April 15, 2012
